Ulrich Schaffer
Ulrich Schaffer was born in Germany and came to Canada with his parents and siblings when he was ten years old. He grew up in the north of the country, studied literature in Vancouver and Hamburg, then taught European literature for ten years.
He has been writing since he was 15. His first book was published when he was 21. Over 200 publications in ten languages with a circulation of over 5 million followed.
Ulrich and his wife Traudi lived together in Gibsons, on the coast of British Columbia, Traudi died in 2021with dementia and Ulrich continues to live there.
He has gone to Europe for 1,600 readings, lectures and seminars in 45 years, to keep in contact with his readers there.
The major themes of his writing are: love and how it expresses itself in committed relationships and friendships, living more consciously, nature and our attitude towards it and questions of spirituality, faith and hope. He is always looking for new expressions of that, which concerns us all in the broadest sense.
Ulrich published 8 books with Harper&Row years ago, but decided to pursue a career in the German-speaking countries of Europe. This is his first serious attempt to publish in English for a North American audience since his time with Harper. He is excited, and hopes he will be able to build a readership on the continent where he lives.
